Stepping away from the great sixties rock group that bore his name, Jeff Beck released his first all-instrumental album leaning heavily on fusion jazz influences. This new direction features his melodic and soulful playing that went on to become a defining characteristic of his sound. While there is a similarity to Herbie Hancock and Mahavishnu Orchestra of that mid 70’s era, Beck himself helped define fusion-jazz of the time. This well recorded album is a desert island must have, especially for those who can find the out of print 5.1 SACD. But, certainly a copy on CD will do in a pinch while you are boogying in the sun.
